Chatting 101

You’ve met a match. Now it’s time to start chatting! As a Husmate, you are likely already aware of the many benefits of co-ownership living. You may see the value of co-ownership as a way to enter the housing market, build equity, create a retirement alternative, or just like the idea of living more intentionally.

Once you’ve created a mutual match, the chat function will be unlocked and you’ll be able to directly message your match through your Husmates profile. Chatting is the time to share more about your reasons for pursuing co-ownership and see where you and your new match are compatible.

Here are some helpful chat icebreakers to help you get started:

• What was the first concert you went to?
• Do you have any pets?
• What city or neighbourhood do you currently live in?
• Where would you ideally like to live as a homeowner?
• How long have you been interested in co-ownership?
• For you, what is the most important quality in a co-owner?
• What spaces, resources, or services are you open to pool or share?
Have you ever spoken with a mortgage broker?

After a few days of chatting, “Request to Meet” and we’ll coordinate a time to meet and guide you and your new match through an introductory meeting. This initial meeting will give you a chance to build on your chat-based relationship and get a first, face-to-face impression of your compatibility.
