Happy New Year! As we embark on 2025, we at Husmates feel a deep sense of gratitude for the journey we've shared with all of you.
Husmates founders Parimal Gosai and Lesli Gaynor started working together at the beginning of 2019, just months before the world was thrown into unprecedented upheaval. The pandemic, coupled with rising housing costs, global conflicts, and a growing sense of isolation, highlighted the fragility of traditional housing models and the urgent need for new solutions.
Since those early days, we have patiently grown Husmates. As queer people who have always operated outside of the mainstream, we have a unique perspective on the challenges and opportunities facing individuals and families today. We believe that traditional models of housing ownership are no longer sufficient to meet the needs of our evolving society. These core principles are what they bring to work at Husmates every single day.
In many cultures across the globe, co-ownership has existed as a model of living and creating intentional community for centuries. Drawing on our own experiences as co-owners – Parimal co-owning with his sister, sharing two fully separated apartments in a neighbourhood that would otherwise be quite unaffordable, and Lesli with friends in the early 90’s as a single mom where her landlord always made her tenancy feel insecure. We understand the profound impact that shared living can have on the individual lives and the communities we build.
Since the inception of Husmates, we have been dedicated to helping individuals and groups navigate the co-ownership landscape. We are incredibly proud to have facilitated over $100 million in co-owned home sales, connecting people with like-minded individuals and guiding them towards a more fulfilling and equitable future.
Looking ahead, we are excited to leverage technology to further enhance the co-ownership experience. We envision a future where Husmates provides a comprehensive ecosystem of tools and resources, connecting co-owners with each other, offering support throughout their journey, and fostering a vibrant and thriving community.
We believe that the future of housing lies in embracing innovative models like co-ownership. As the world continues to evolve, with shifts in family structures, aging, the rise of remote work, and a growing emphasis on sustainability, co-ownership offers a compelling alternative to traditional homeownership.
We are committed to creating a future where home is not just a place to live, but a source of joy, community, and resilience. This year, we encourage you to reflect on the role of home in your own life. Does your current living situation support your well-being? Does it provide the space and connection you need to thrive?
Thank you for being a part of the Husmates community. We wish you a prosperous New Year filled with hope and possibility.
Sincerely,
Parimal & Lesli
